The sound they make is impeccable, that impossible-not-to-shake-to electro funk created by LA's Spazzkid and smothered with sweet acoustic caress and the ever so sweet voice of Susan Park. My Parasol has been creating adventure and what can only be described as a union of holy matrimony between the sunny California melody with the witty and hip electronic soundscape that seems modern and retro all at the same time. With their recent release My Parasol has geared up to rise to a position of ever growing accolades amongst its peers in the LA music scene. My Parasol continues on with the effortless grace and fun-in-the-sun attitude to bring you music that touches your soul and shakes your hips all in a day's work.

My Parasol’s La Cabeza Del Sol (Summer Mix)
‘Tis the season for Summer Mixtapes! I don’t know if this passes as one. But there’s one thing we know for sure. These songs make us feel warm and fuzzy inside. :)
1) The Rentals - My Summer Girl
Susan: Takes me back to summer, floating aimlessly around the pool under the beating sun.
2) Ra Ra Riot - Boy (RAC Remix)
Mark: I heard this on my way home late at night. It was a sleepy drive but I remember waking up to this song and doing a little jig in the car.
3) Toro Y Moi - New Beat
Susan: Where are my patent disco shoes when I need them?
4) Matthew Dear - You Put a Smell on Me (Breakbot Remix)
Mark: Simply put, everything that Breakbot touches is gold.
5) Bibio - Pretentious
Mark: The intro sounds like an asian instrument which I felt was out of place at first. But when I heard it with the main riff, I loved it. Totally dig the vibe in Bibio’s stuff: gritty, a little unpolished, lots of character.
6) Fleet Foxes - Helplesness Blues
Susan: I love the earnest lyrics and the beautiful arrangement of this song. It’s so captivating. I could listen to this on repeat forever.
7) Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You
Susan: This song always finds its way back on my playlist. What can I say. JB, man… you know me.
8) Bjork - It’s in our hands
Susan: When I want to get there.
9) Gold Panda - Marriage (Baths Remix)
Mark: A case of a favorite artist remixed by another favorite artist. I play this song in my car endlessly. There’s something about the way Baths treated this song. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
10) Architecture in Helsinki - Contact High (Javelin Remix)
Mark: I’m big fans of both AIH’s indie pop stylings and Javelin’s Lo-fi electronic pop sampling. The original version was upbeat and bubbly but Javelin’s version took it over the top. It was love at first listen!

Here’s a music video for “After Cards” by LA-based film maker Jean-Pierre Caner. Footage taken from the ever generous Internet Archive. Jean-Pierre makes these stunning videos and film collages which we love. So it was really cool to work with him and hash out ideas. A good dose of do-si-doing juxtaposed by some underaged joyriding pretty much sums up everything doesn’t it? Enjoy!
Love the video guys! Good job!

Manila based super-hip Heima Store will be launching their new collection soon. In line with that, they released a teaser video (music by us) as well as invites to the launch. Hope all of you folks in Manila drop by!
A good friend of ours who founded an amazing organization called Joya Scholars recently approached us to see if we could create a song to promote their campaign. Of course we were happy to contribute. We initially didn’t know what vision we had for the song. But we knew that we just wanted to have fun and to do whatever felt right to us along the way. At the end, this song turned out to be one of the most enjoyable projects we’ve ever worked on. It was such a good exercise for us in letting go of control and letting the art breathe. Hope you guys can sense it too. Enjoy!

How did I discover this only now? This is such a beautiful cover of John Lennon’s “Real Love” by Regina Spektor. I heard this song randomly over the weekend and it has haunted me ever since. It’s so good, it just breaks me up.
-Susan
I think hearing the lyrics of this song sung clearly really made a difference for me. The Beatles version was built with Lennon’s scratchy recording and I personally find it hard to hear what he’s singing. Hearing the Regina Spektor version made me realize how beautiful the lyrics are.
