The sound they make is impeccable, that impossible-not-to-shake-to electro funk created by LA's Spazzkid and smothered with sweet acoustic caress and the ever so sweet voice of Susan Park. My Parasol has been creating adventure and what can only be described as a union of holy matrimony between the sunny California melody with the witty and hip electronic soundscape that seems modern and retro all at the same time. With their recent release My Parasol has geared up to rise to a position of ever growing accolades amongst its peers in the LA music scene. My Parasol continues on with the effortless grace and fun-in-the-sun attitude to bring you music that touches your soul and shakes your hips all in a day's work.

A good friend of ours who founded an amazing organization called Joya Scholars recently approached us to see if we could create a song to promote their campaign. Of course we were happy to contribute. We initially didn’t know what vision we had for the song. But we knew that we just wanted to have fun and to do whatever felt right to us along the way. At the end, this song turned out to be one of the most enjoyable projects we’ve ever worked on. It was such a good exercise for us in letting go of control and letting the art breathe. Hope you guys can sense it too. Enjoy!

Me and Susan are both fans of Dntel, an LA-based electronic musician known for his collaboration with Deathcab’s Ben Gibbard in the project known as The Postal Service. I have personally liked his pre-Postal Service stuff, where touched genres of IDM and Glitch. I also like his future-pop project Figurine.
I was really excited when I heard a track on the radio going to work. The unmistakeable Dntel style is there, but the sample were not really familiar. I later found out that the song was a Dntel Remix of Enya, and i liked it a lot! I searched online about it and found out that Dntel made an album full of Enya remixes! I just finished downloading it and cant wait to hear the whole album! You should download it too!
“I make music as Dntel, my last few releases have come out on Sub Pop. I’ve loved Enya since I was a teenager and I just finished this mini-album of remixes I did this past fall after a marathon revisiting of her records. I’m really proud of it, but unfortunately I couldn’t figure out a way to give it a legitimate release. I felt like if I tried to get it to her through any of the usual channels it would probably get shut down before it even made it to her ears. Hopefully nobody will mind it floating around, it was made with love and no money will be made off of it. I hope you enjoy it!!” – Jimmy Tamborello

How did I discover this only now? This is such a beautiful cover of John Lennon’s “Real Love” by Regina Spektor. I heard this song randomly over the weekend and it has haunted me ever since. It’s so good, it just breaks me up.

I think hearing the lyrics of this song sung clearly really made a difference for me. The Beatles version was built with Lennon’s scratchy recording and I personally find it hard to hear what he’s singing. Hearing the Regina Spektor version made me realize how beautiful the lyrics are.
